Let me start by saying that the culmination of this post is purely accidental. Chalk it up to me having too many pieces of clothing laying all over my “office”. These pieces seemed to organically come together to create these different looks. But hey, I ain’t mad about it.
I love a good dress. On a typical day, I have absolutely zero need for one, but it is nice to know that one is hanging in my closet if an “I need a dress” emergency strikes. Since I don’t wear them often, I had no business buying this one. In the store I challenged myself to find a way to make this a functional piece in my closet. When I say it lying among the pile of clothes, I was instantly inspired to “make it work” with the following items:
1) Chambray shirt
2) Basic black tee
3) My new favorite skirt
I know you are probably thinking, “she has lofty goals”, but just wait until you see it for yourself. I honestly cannot decide which look is my favorite. The dress can definitely stand on its own two legs, but there is something to be said by doing the unexpected with an item. Putting your own spin on it is how you individualize your style all while utilizing multiple items in your wardrobe.
Here are the completed looks! Each picture has the items linked in the caption. Shopping these links- even if you don’t buy that exact item- helps us keep Bestie Dressed going!

Skirt: The Most Adorable Skirt
I am wearing size XS in color Lavender. It is a perfect fit. It also comes in black and cream.
I challenge you to look in your closet, and see what items you can find that work well with each other. I never would have ever considered putting a skirt over a dress, but here I am, doing it and loving it. With one great dress and a few basic items, I have a variety of outfits!
