Okay, I’ll say it. Far too often, people overlook the versatility and ease of the white t-shirt. If you have been around here long enough, you probably know that I have amassed quite the collection of white tops. I am forever a jeans and white t-shirt kind of gal. From v-neck to scoop neck, to pocketed and oversized, I LOVE wearing white t-shirts. While they may seem super basic at the core, they can be elevated in many ways. Pairing a white t-shirt with some of your dressier pieces (think blazer or pencil skirt) actually helps maximize that business wardrobe you wear for your 9-5!
So, styling a white t-shirt- here we go!

This J.Crew Factory tee is called a wear-to-work tee, and is essentially a higher quality fabric than your basic cotton crew neck or v-neck. It is currently as low as $8, and comes in many great neutrals. If you are looking for the most basic of all basic pieces, this is it! I am wearing XXS, but could wear XS without it feeling oversized.
White T-Shirt x Blazer
Since my day to day wardrobe generally consists of casual pieces, I love to invest in some “business casual” pieces to enhance my everyday looks. Paying homage to my marketing office job days, you might say. Blazers are my favorite t-shirt pairing for fall. Whether it’s a great graphic tee, or a basic white t-shirt, it balances out both a casual and business look. This pink blazer is a great, fun option. Straying from the typical neutral, it adds a fun pop and stands alone as the centerpiece of this outfit.
The plaid blazer is one of the hottest fall trends, and we are absolutely here for it. This knit material style is soft and comfortable- a must have for me. It looks business, but it is perfect for play. For the record, I play a lot- trains, hot wheels, play-doh. You get the picture. I am wearing an XS petite in this style. At under $50 (check for an even lower price with discount code), this is a steal for a fall trend piece.
White T-Shirt x Oversized Cardigan
I am going to feature two open cardigans. One is a splurge (thank you, birthday coupon), and the other is a save. Both are equally soft and cozy. You can overthink pairings for these if you want, but I will just be over here letting my basic white t-shirt do all the work.
While you’re here, let us discuss these fun leopard bottoms (similar linked). You can see them better in the styling video, but just take it from me that they are amazing. When you already have a busy bottom (a print or plaid), a basic top is key to balancing out the look. Since I am styling these pants for a more casual look, the white tee and open cardigan take it from business professional to professional potty trainer.
White T-Shirt x Leather Jacket
This is pretty much the easiest of easy when it comes to styling a white t-shirt. Literally all you have to do is throw this on, and it goes from basic to bada$$ in a matter of seconds (so long as your sleeves aren’t inside out and you have to fix that before putting the jacket on, then maybe closer to a matter of minutes). This jacket is my favorite purchase from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and though the price has increased since the sale ended, it is still an amazing price for such a staple item.
